LA In 24 Hours

Yup, you read right. Within 24 hours, Sinta and I flew to LA, had some fun, then flew back to San Francisco.

But to keep the story short of why we went down there this weekend, I'll tell you that we had cheap tickets through Virgin America, the newest addition to domestic flights. They were so inexpensive ($39 one-way/per person), it would cost us more to cancel our flights.

I was off from work on Friday. Remember that manuscript that we helped edit? Well, that morning, we scrambled to package the manuscript and mail it out to the publisher before our flight. So far, so good, we were running ahead of schedule and on our way to the airport, when I discovered that I forgot my ID at home. That's a lesson taught for having too many purses, right? We had to go back for it since you can't fly without a photo ID these days.

This was our first time flying with Virgin America, but of all my experiences with flying (including international), this airline, hands down, has got to be the most high-tech one. Each seat is equipped with an integrated touch-screen monitor for your entertainment--music, movies, TV shows, even shopping! If you want to order a cocktail, just order it via your monitor, and pay for it by swiping your credit card through the monitor's card reader. In a few minutes, the flight attendant will bring your drink. Too easy, huh? And for the gadget girl--or guy--each row has a power outlet, USB port, and ethernet. The 57-minute flight to LAX didn't give me enought time to play with all of the entertainment features!

Once in LA, we drove to Sinta's cousin's place where we hung out for a little bit before we met up with the rest of the family in Culver City where we had dinner at Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken. I haven't had fried chicken in a few years, and this is the place to get some lip smackin' juicy fried chicken. Couple it with warm buttermilk biscuits, macaroni salad and cole slaw, and Kettle fries, and you're good to go!

Afterwards, we headed to Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica where we walked around and checked out the shops and street performers. We ended the night with beer at Barney's Beanery.

The next day, Sinta and I visited another cousin and his family for brunch at their house. That was really nice. We dined outside their backyard, and played with Baby L--such the cutie. We hung out for a couple of hours, talked story, and took photos. From there, we headed back to LAX to catch our flight home.

It seems like we did a lot within 24-hours, but it was rather relaxing. It was a wonderful way to treat ourselves after the editing.
